CoastFM 88.7 Community Programming Guide

Monday

12.00 midnight Reminiscing With Robin
Let your mind go. Drift into our glorious musical past. Remember how radio used to be in the '60s and '70s? Sure we listened eagerly to the exciting new world of Rock 'n' Roll. But we also relaxed into the reassuring pop ballads, love songs and jazz music of the '30s, '40s and '50s. Robin Carbins lets the music take you back to times when life was simpler. Re-live the flavour.... and relax. A perfect way to end your day.

9.00am Coast Talk
If you want to know what's happening that may be new and unusual around the Coast district, Ralph Gourlay keeps his ear close to the ground and chats regularly with the people and organisations who serve our community. Whether it's an activity from your local club, or a performance of puppets from Iran, you'll hear about it on Coast Talk. Ralph binds his interviews all together with a pleasing mix of popular, folk and jazz music that is easy on the ears -- perhaps new to you if you're under 30, and pleasingly familiar if you're over 40. Grab a cuppa and put your feet up for a while.
Ralph Gourlay
12.00 noon Spectrum
Music is a reliable marker for times of social change, at times a point of breaking out or of radical social change and, at other times, evolutionary upheaval. But what was ordinary daily life really like then? How well do you remember it? How did the times change the books you read, the people we voted for, the theatre, films and television we watched, and the music we listened to? Dave Hall remembers. When he was growing up in Adelaide, the son of a family of show business people, he grew to be a supreme showman himself, and now brings his considerable talents to bear on recreating the feel and the flavour only Dave can muster showcasing the full spectrum of music and more from decades gone, but not forgotten. He revives memories, recalling what was making news and who were the movers and shakers. But Dave's trip is a lot more than a mere peep into a museum; "Spectrum" is more than just lively lunchtime entertainment. It is also a sound reminder of the times that shaped all of our lives.......

2.00pm My Kinda Country
Trevor Dawson is regarded by industry insiders as one of South Australia's leading authorities and presenters of Country music. Over more years than he'll admit to, Trevor has learned what country lovers like to hear - a mix of solid "classic" music from the golden age of Country & Western (the '50s, typified by icons like Patsy Cline and Hank Williams, and the '60s headed up by great performers like Emmylou Harris), peppered with brilliant new-generation up-comers like Carlene Carter. You'll delight in small doses of trivia and anecdotes, and you'll be surprised by some of the great artists who drop in for a chat. You'll also be pleased and proud to know that one in every three tracks showcased on My Kinda Country features Australian artists, If you like Country, My Kinda Country is your kinda country.
Trevor Dawson
4.00pm Monday Drive
Join David for the drive home every Monday afternoon with a wide variety of music from the 50's to today, delving into the stories behind the music and the people who wrote and performed it.

2nd & 4th Monday of the Month

Close Encounters of a Community Kind

Being part of a community is important to personal wellbeing and the general health of communities as a whole.  As the opening song for the TV program "Cheers" goes, "Making your way in the world today, takes everything you got, taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot, wouldn't you like to get away, to where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came, you wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same, you wanna be where everybody knows your name".  Community groups/organisations help to connect people in this way.  Together they have something to offer everyone in the community, so you are bouond to hear about an organisation or group on this program that will suit your interests and needs.

3rd Monday of the Month

The Y-Report

This is a show for people aged 14-25 dealing in depth with a new topic every month.  We’re here to support and educate younger people on issues affecting ‘the youth of today’, from health (physical and mental), education, sexuality and sport.  The Y-Report is made by and for the youth and students of South Western Adelaide, giving an insight from youth on the issues and bringing in guests who specialise in the topic of the month.

We encourages you to get involved and contribute to the program, whether you’re on your own or part of a group.  Listen in for positive news in the world as well as youth achievements from where to live to all over the world.

10.00pm Lost In Time
"I haven't heard that in years!!". If you thought a particular song has been "lost in time", "Rhino" Ryan will find it. Starting from a base-frame of "events that happened on this week back through the last 6 decades", Lost in Time noodles out old pub-singalong favourites - mainly rock 'n' roll, blues and a smidgin' of country - songs that we may have forgotten were once familiar to us. Every week, too, you get 3 Aussie tracks from South Australian artists (there's a 15-year-old girl from Mt. Gambier who sings like a 30-year-old professional, and local pub bands that hold their own with the best). Lost in Time, thanks to the internet, now attracts regular listeners who call in from the South and Eastern seaboard of the USA, Wales and Scotland. Broaden you musical experience and revive those forgotten faves you used to sing in the shower.

Tuesday

12.00 midnight Reliving The Memories
Under the guidance of long-time DJ, Roy Gareffa, let two hours of pure nostalgia sweep over you. Each Tuesday morning Roy selects a Feature Vinyl Album from the past 50 years and plays a track from it every half hour. Each week at 12.30 am he also selects a particular year and plays hits that topped the charts in that year. At 1:15am he recalls momentous events that happened on this day, and the music that accompanied them. Whether your tastes run to Slim Dusty or Joan Sutherland, you'll find every journey through time a refreshingly rewarding and relaxing experience.

3.00am Coasting Along

·         Can’t sleep?

·         Just got up and getting ready for work?

·         Need something to get your day off to a great early start?

Then tune into “Coasting Along” with Jim Probert.

Jim plays a great mix of bright and breezy popular music from the fifties right through to the nineties. Nat King Cole & Guy Mitchell, Pattie Page & Teresa Brewer, Elvis & Roy Orbison, the Beatles & Lulu, Dire Straits & Chris Isaak, Robbie Williams & Kylie, and even a little bit of Lady Ga Ga. Jim plays them all. And there’s always a couple of boppy modern country songs, a joke or two, and some interesting slants on the music being played.

Relive the music you grew up with, music that brings back all your treasured memories.

Jim welcomes your calls, and will always do his best to play your requests.

Jim Probert
6.00am Good Morning Good Morning
Let us put bite into your breakfast. Become a "cereal" listener to "Good Morning Good Morning" with Brenton and Shiona. It's fun, sometimes irreverent and always entertaining. Join us for a revolving door of music from the Andrews Sisters to ZZ Top and everything in between, including surprise tracks from popular artists that you may never had heard. Music recalls memories; get ready to relive old ones and create new ones. You get the latest national and state news, regular weather updates, this day's birthdays and historical events and, of course, "How Green Was My Cactus" at 8.30. And there's Coast FM's resident Grinch who will grumble about the topics of the day-- feel free to agree or disagree. You're personally invited to join the banter between these two and share the best start to the day, every Tuesday morning at six for breakfast at our place.
Brenton & Shiona
9.00am Coast Talk
Steve McNally likens his Tuesday coast Talk to Forest Gump's idea of life - a box of chocolates; "you never quite know what you might get". For example, the music is based around a theme which could be as way-out as "Song titles with 8 or more words", or "Songs with a colour in the title", or "Songs with numbers in the title". Steve invites you to ring in and suggest themes for future shows. Coast Talk is about interviews, too - primarily with people in the "entertainment" industry....musicians, authors, performers... Every week there's a rundown from the Red Cross on current mobile blood donation centres. Every month he talks with people from the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs about current scams, and every two months there's a lively discussion with people from the Equal Opportunity Commission SA about what to do if you encounter discrimination, and a rundown of free services they offer. Tuesday Coast Talk is packed with info-tainment.
Steve McNally
12.00 noon Let's Coast Awhile
No matter what you're doing, or how you're feeling, Gilly Dee will put a smile on your face. "It's personal", Gilly says about the radio medium. "It's about me and you and the music. '50s, '60s, '70s, Aussie rock, rock 'n' roll from around the globe, soul, rhythm & blues, love ballads...... I make sure there's always something in there to catch your attention and leave you feeling comfy and happy". An old pro told Gilly once - "Do every show as if it's your last one." "I never forgot that", adds Gilly. "I pour my heart into it." Little wonder we go "Wow!!
Gilly Dee
2.00pm The Open Paddock
Leave life's humdrum behind: head to The Open Paddock where Ray Pannach has lassoed Australian independent country music artists, plus a few overseas "strays"for you to sing along with, dance to, laugh at, be entertained by and reminisce about. Who knows, you may even let go a spontaneous yodel! Sandwiched by the music you'll find information about the artists, 'phone interviews, studio guests, giveaways, and "Jimmy" (Who's Jimmy? Tune in and find out!) You can request your favourite country artists and songs via the studio phoneline (08-8371-1000). After two hours, you'll be ready to stash the nosebag, pick up the reins and mosey on along the road with renewed enthusiasm and a song or three in your heart.
Ray Pannach
4.00pm Driving Home
Driving home can be a chore and a bore, but not with Coast FM and a familiar friend - Peter Haran -- in the passenger seat for company. He'll keep you bopping along with up-tempo beats and familiar tunes that soothe away the cares of the day, but keep you alert and alive. Wherever there's a major holdup, Peter's listeners ring in with on-the-spot reports so you won't get caught. There are also newsey notes on what's happening in your area tonight. But chat is kept to a minimum; the music moves you along. It seems like you're home in no time at all with Peter Haran - the perfect travelling companion on Tuesday afternoons.
Peter Haran
6.00pm Vets On Air
Vets On Air was an original idea and is probably the only community radio programme that now boasts an avid weekly audience that is spread as diversely as Queensland, Jerusalem, the West Bank of the Jordan, Fiji, Cyprus, Somalia, the Sudan, the Solomon Islands - anywhere Australian service personnel and Federal Police are currently deployed. Blending a 50/50 mix of music and information, and now past 350 shows over the last 7 years, Vets on Air and host John Gilman connect with current and former diggers, unearthing a mineload of news, information and interviews from Veterans' Affairs and Counselling Services. There are practical information resource segments, too, like The Sick Bay and Memorial aimed primarily at vets of any and every conflict our country has been involved in anywhere in the world, "Vets" is also an excellent way for civvies like us to get to know what our boys and girls are up to. So, get your boots off, get down and get with Vets On Air
Vets On Air
8.00pm The Sound Cage
Regardless of the genre, if it's good and it's local, you'll hear it first on The Sound Cage. Host Mandi Faerie is passionate (yes, that's the right word) about promoting South Australian artists and bands, be they folk, blues, indi-rock or indi-alternative, or anything else for that matter, and she has her feelers out for recent Australian music. Mandi interviews local artists live in the studio, and interstate and overseas artists coming to Adelaide phone in to join in. What's happening on the local music scene this week? What gigs and festivals are happening? What's going to be hot? Find out first in the The Sound Cage.
Mandi Faerie
10.00pm Blues Around The Coast
If you know the difference between country acoustic, Chicago electric, and Texas blues; if you've heard of Chess Records, or if you know the real names of guys like Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf, then this is definitely your gig. The Snowman started with Coast FM way back in 2001 hosting the Party Mix programme on Saturday nights, so he knows what's what, and how black American Blues influenced the English and European music scene through The Rolling Stones and The Animals. You'll get news on current and coming "live" blues gigs, and hear the best of new releases hot off the presses, too. If it's music and blue, you'll get it wall-to-wall every Tuesday night on Coast FM.
Doug (The Snowman) Frost

Wednesday

12.00 midnight Seachange
Adam Horsell breaks the mould midweek at midnight with more modern, up-tempo rock music from bands like Regurgitator, Smashing Pumpkins and The Venue; and contemporary blues by artists like Johnny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Of course, Adam's repertoire ranges far wider than that, but this is just to give you an idea of the territory he's inviting us to expand into here. Adam confesses that he is himself on an evolving musical journey, and he shares with us his latest loves and finds. For our more traditional listeners he gives us a little background information on the artists and numbers, enough to pique our interest and open up our capacity to appreciate modern rock and blues, and encouraging us to make for ourselves the new musical discoveries he has made. He invites you to call him and share your experience of this new breed of music. Join those who've already made the leap of faith, and enjoy yourself in a very different way.
Jared Brown
3.00am A Little Night Music
Unless you're a shift worker, it's highly likely that, if you're awake at 3am, it's because you cannot sleep. You are not alone; insomnia is an all-too-common problem. Coast FM's new programme, "A Little Night Music", unique on Australian radio, has been created to help your transition from the old day to the new. You'll arrive rested, refreshed, re-created and ready to greet the dawn, more buoyant and confident. Presenter Barrie Barkla focuses his special combination of theatrical experience and therapeutic crisis counselling skills to produce a 3-hour inward adventure -- a heady and heartful mix of music, words and sounds from nearly every genre in the book, mixed with comedy and meditation. Every ten minutes there are themed Specials; there's comedy every hour, and around 4:20am, a special feature called "Just a Moment" invites you to look at some aspect of life from a new perspective. Barrie says "I've found a way to put my listeners peacefully to sleep without boring them to death. This is Theatre of the Mind. You'll arrive at 6am feeling inspired, hopefully empowered, and certainly a whole lot better about the world and yourself in it. You'll be raring to go." Even as a background for shift workers who have to stay alert, alive and terrific, A Little Night Music beats the pants off commercial "easy listening".
Barrie Barkla
6.00am Wednesday Breakfast
A brekky show that gets you up and out on the bright side of the bed. No, it's not Groundhog Day, it's Wednesday Breakfast, a programme that showcases music from the '60s and '70s and actually SOUNDS like radio from that era - Anecdotes, trivia, gags, and jokes pepper a lively mix of real, analogue music, much of it off original vinyl. Either side of regular news, sport and weather reports, Rod McLennan gives you goss on the music tracks, while David Walker answers the phones and passes on listener reports of traffic and transport snarls and accident hotspots to avoid on your way into the "smoke". Start your Wednesdays sunny- side up: stretch your mental muscles, and arrive informed, in-form, refreshed and rearing to go.
Rob McLennan
9.00am Coast Talk
Way back in the primoridal mists of time past, Brian & Laura Vercoe's programme used to be known as "Penny Arcade", but when their format developed to incorporate more talk, a listener riot ensued when the familiar Roy Orbison theme was dropped, so back it came!  Brian & Laura understand what makes community radio so vital and why their listeners remain so loyal - they bring in real people to share their "me-too" stories of life and living, and they use the radio medium to connect those who need help with those who want to help. And then there's the music - a magical mix of foot-tappers and ballads from Brian's beloved '50s & '60s, interlaced with Laura's cherished '70s and '80s. Then, after 11am, it's in-yer-face, unashamed Rock 'n' Roll. Wednesday Coast Talk is more than just talk, it's a roller-coaster of bright entertainment.
Brian & Laura Vercoe
12.00 noon Wednesday Lunchbox
When we hark back to the '50s and '60s, we're tempted to think of the revolutionary arrival of Rock and Roll artists like Bill Haley, Little Richard, Bo Didley and Elvis. But the truth is, 80% of what we listened to, and still made the Hit Parades, were artists like Dean Martin, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Leroy Anderson, Doris Day, Jo Stafford, Peggy Lee, Freddie Gardiner, Mantovani and Andre Kostelanetz. These were the songs and sounds we listened to in the milkbars and record shops and heard at the movies. These were the melodies and songs that shaped our ideas of romance and inspired our chat-up lines. Take a relaxing lunch break....... and drift off for a while.

2.00pm Kicking Country
Kicking Country is an Australian benchmark Country programme: host Mike Parkes promises you'll hear music not featured anywhere else in S.A., and exclusive release tracks, hot from the recording studios, before most other stations in Australia. Well over half of Mike's huge following tune in online from all over the world, and over half of his tracks are requests. Sponsored by Coopers Brewery, Kicking Country also showcases a high percentage of Australian tracks and artists. Cap all that off with a local Country gig guide and interviews with visiting celebrity artists. For everything you may want to know about Country, tune in every Wednesday from 2pm. If you want to know more about anything you hear on "Kicking Country", log on to kickingcountry.net . Coast FM is truly the home of Country in SA.
Mike Parkes
4.00pm Wednesday Drive
Wednesday Drive is a bright, breezy, fun cruise home through a broad mix of contemporary music and chart hits from the '60s through to current hits, and an enticing lineup of new Aussie and World music artists. Along the way you can expect to be thoroughly and enjoyably involved by celebrity interviews, news and goss. Host, Dianna Taylor is a member of the Adelaide Critics-Commentator Film Group, so her movie reviews and interviews are well-informed and insightful. She does a weekly rundown on "What's Screening in Adelaide". There's time for laughs, too, with "Unusual World News" - strange but true yarns from all over the planet. Put Coast's Wednesday Drive on your radio dial, and unwind with a smile on your dial. PS. If you have any special requests, email one week in advance to dianna@coastfm.com.au
Dianna Taylor
6.00pm My Own Way To Rock
"Wow! You're playing something different. Where did you get that from?" My Own Way to Rock trots out feisty rock 'n' roll and blues that we know and love, but by artists we either may not know, or who we're not used to hearing with that material. Thanks to the good graces of contacts around the world, DJ Rob Horsell exuberantly promotes Adelaide and Aussie bands and artists, and mixes in international CD's hot from overseas gigs. Every show is themed, and over the next few weeks Rob is going to feature Great "B" Sides – for example, you may know T-Rex's "Get It On", or The Kinks' "Apeman", but did you ever turn them over and play the flipsides? Surprises and treasures await you...........
Rob Horsell
8.00pm Stage & Screen
It's refreshing to come across a show-business programme that is hosted by a performer, rather than a journalist or a critic. Don Goldsmith's life is inspired by the music of living, breathing, bloodpumping theatre, be it Broadway, vaudeville, opera or movie music. Every week you'll hear what's happening in South Australian professional and community theatre and film. On the first Wednesday of every month, Don and associate Jack Curtis present "Encore" - a magazine segment featuring the goings-on in local community theatre, including amateur and professional audition calls. Weekly themes bring you an immense variety of music; you may encounter a galaxy of Naughty Soubrettes, a heady curry of Aussie and Indian dishes on Australia/ Indian Independence Day, a rollcall of Aussie and British war songs on Anzac Day, and specials on the Great Stars of Stage and Screen - everyone from "Our Glad" to Julie Anthony, from George Formby to Anthony Warlow. If it's up in lights, or wears tights, you'll find it on Stage & Screen.
Don Goldsmith
10.00pm Relaxing Interlude
When you've had enough nerve-jangling for one day, it's amazing how the right mix of music - the right tones and textures, the right pace and rhythms, the right words - can relax your body, soothe your mind, touch your heart and satisfy your soul. Ludmila en-lightens our Wednesday evenings with an hour of light classical chilling-out that drifts into a second hour of oh-so-easy listening across all the pastures of jazz, blues, soul, and popular light entertainment. Let Ludmila help you put the day to rest and set you up for a restful night's sleep.
Ludmila

Thursday

12.00 midnight Midnight On The Coast
If a lineup of '60s to '80s rock 'n' roll artists and groups like The Rolling Stones, Jimmi Hendrix, The Yardbirds, Bob Dylan, The Little River Band and Jethro Tull sounds like your bag, you're going to have a ball with Graham Parsons from midnight to 2am every Thursday morning. Hear all the greats in studio recordings, live concerts, and even the occasional demo disc - this is rockin' heaven!
Graham Parsons
2.00am Pyjama Country
After 18 years as a Coast FM presenter, Frank Roberts has a firm grip on the helm of a show that takes us back to the greats of Australian and American Pioneer Country music - Buddy Williams, Smoky Dawson (the original one), Tex Morton, Slim Dusty, Joy McKean, Gene Autry, Tim McNamara, the Le Garde Twins, Jimmie Rogers, the Carter Family, Kitty Wells, Hank Williams, Chad Morgan and Reg Lindsay....... Frank also trots out from his extensive collection, precious studio transcriptions of interviews conducted in the 50's and 60's with contemporary country artists by Jim Francis (ex-ABC country expert) and Robert Fricker (ex-5AD). To lovers of country music, these snippets of radio music history are priceless, and you'll only ever hear them on Coast FM's Pyjama Country.
Frank Roberts
6.00am Waking up with Joy
No chance of staying bleary-eyed for long when you wake up on Thursdays with Joy. She's revving to run with '60s, '70s and '80s country, pop, trad jazz, rockabilly and rock 'n' roll - truckies love this gal! And at 7.10 she drops in "On This Day....."; and Famous Birthdays at around 7:45am. Strewn around the rest of the morning you'll pick up snippets of "Did You Know?" ... you know, the kind of light and useless trivia we love to pick up and drop into conversations for the sheer fun of it. If getting up in the mornings is a bit of a drag for you....wake up with Joy for a change. Warning: Joy is habit-forming, and she may be, too.
Joy
9.00am Coast Talk
Community radio is all about, well... community - the things we have in common and the things we like to do together. Dave Hearn updates us on current and pending community events. But he does much more, delving behind the activities to the heart and soul of the people involved. He regularly interviews people from organisations like the RSL, Arthritis SA, and Seniors SA, and chats with the guys and girls from the Sturt division of SAPolice. He regularly catches up on air with the mayors of West Torrens, Onkaparinga and Holdfast Bay Councils, and once-monthly he checks in with MP. Robert Brokenshire, to get a perspective on what's happening politically. On the second Thursday of every month he looks at the coming issue of the Boomer Magazine. What's new? What's of import? What's interesting? Thursday Coast Talk is itself a magazine of stories and useful information, stitched together with what Dave describes as "easy music with a beat". Now that's Info-tainment.
Dave Hearn
12.00 noon Beat Box
Beat Box delivers what commercial radio cannot - catchy, wall-to-wall, singalong entertainment and bubblegum pop - songs you grooved to, mixed with rarities and long-lost hits, mostly from the '60s and '70s. We're talking Abba, Boney-M, The Bay City Rollers, the Partridge Family, The Master's Apprentices, and novelties from entertainers and groups like the 1910 Fruitgum Company. Mark Constable has been driving the Beat machine now for over 18 years. He knows the ditties that you just couldn't get out of your head, and he keeps you coming back for more.
Mark Constable
2.00pm On The Border
On The Border takes you to a place where the borders blur between so-called "genres" - where Music, regardless of its type, is "music to your ears". Judith Waugh takes a mostly intuitive approach to each show, allowing her choices to be inspired by real-life happenings in the week. Her choice of a track may be provoked by a particular rhythm, a lyric that tugs at your consciousness, or a particular nostalgic pull. And she leaves spaces in her rundown to improvise in response to your calls. Coast FM's On The Border is a refreshing return to "live" radio – a whole new world away from the contemporary, computer-controlled, "canned" McListening on other music stations.
Judith Waugh
4.00pm Thursday Drive
Whether you are on the road, still at work, or at home, your host Allan Baird keeps you entertained with music from the '60s, '70s and '80s - your favourites and some you may not have heard in a long time. The first track after the 4pm News and Weather always commemorates an artist who is celebrating a birthday on that day. In the first hour you'll also hear interviews with high-profile personalities (past alumni include Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki, Ray Martin, Noeline Brown, Mike Rann, Isobel Redmond, Ian Kiernan, Maggie Beer, Dick Smith, Blanche d'Alpuget, Rolf Harris & Ita Buttrose). In the second hour, lawyer Dino Di Rosa shares his wisdom on legal matters that affect all our everyday lives. If you'd like to hear a certain topic discussed, email Allan on thursdaydrive@coastfm.com.au Driving Home keeps you in good company and serves up everything you need between 4 and 6pm on Thursdays.
Allan Baird
6.00pm Sports Cap
This is hardcore S-P-O-R-T …... two hours of fixtures, results, probing interviews, robust panel discussion and perceptive comment on SANFL, AFL, grade and state (Redbacks) cricket, local & national soccer, harness racing, local basketball and general sports. At 7.30pm each week, SANFL stats. expert Phil Herden joins the panel to add perspective to what's going on. Thanks to major sponsors, Harness Racing SA, rider Aaron Bain is also always on hand for expert comment on the trots. Every week local coaches in all sports front the panel for the kind of in-depth analysis beloved of sports fans. Give yourself a better-than-sporting chance: check out Sports Cap every Thursday from 6pm to 8pm.
Panel
8.00pm Thursday Deluxe
"Deluxe" means "special". Coast's Thursday Deluxe steps out of the mainstream - even Coast's mainstream to unearth blues, swing and rock 'n' roll artists you may not have heard before, and different sides to artists you may know. Presenter, Malcolm Hill subscribes to the dictum: "There are only two kinds of music ... music you like, and music you don't like" Malcolm only plays the first kind. Get your adrenaline pumping with Rockabilly, both classic (like Buddy Holly and early Elvis) and modern (starting with The Stray Kats). Follow the musical journey from Hillbilly, through Rockabilly, to Rock 'n' Roll and have a thumping good time along the way.
Malcolm Hill
10.00pm Soul Power
Tony Clarke is one of the original pioneer presenters on Coast FM. He specialises in R & B and Soul - southern, traditional and modern. He musically explores the roots of soul in country & western, folk, spiritual and gospel music. At around 10.20 pm every show, he invites us to stand On Gospel Corner. He'll feature specials on soul artists coming to perform in Adelaide (like Mary J. Blige), and he's always on the alert for rare-as-hens'-teeth tracks of local artists from the small, independent record labels. Local soul artists find it hard to get recorded; if there's a new track been cut anywhere in Australia, you'll hear it on Soul Power.
Tony Clarke

Friday

12.00 midnight On the Coast
Pommie-born Linda Longster grew up immersed in the sounds of The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Cliff Richard & The Shadows (and Norrie Paramor), Herman's Hermits and, of course, Elvis. 9.00am Coast Talk
Radio is the background to much of our lives, but when something interesting comes along, we bring it to the foreground, and enrich our day. That's Barry Gower's definition of Entertainment, and that's what he does. Coast Talk features interviews with with well-known personalities from the past and the present, and regular updates from people who work on the ground with local community organisations like the Guide Dogs Association, the Animal Welfare League, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. With familiar music from the '50s through to the '80s he brings back memories of significant events in each of our personal lives. Barry Gower
12.00 noon Midday Memories
Midday Memories taps into the power of the past for our listeners. Presenter, Roger Britcher says it best - "We supply the music - you bring your memories." The resulting celebration works. For two hours over lunch every Friday afternoon you hear the music you love to remember, and you're welcome to ring in and share your recollections. A few weeks ago Roger played - off the original vinyls - a whole programme of Legends of Rock 'n' Roll from the '50s and '60s. The response was so huge, he followed it up a week later with the flip sides. The phone rang hot. Expect more surprises.... and settle in for a laidback lunch you'll remember.
Roger Britcher
2.00pm Gospel & Country
Inspiration, healing and emotional uplift are the keynote ingredients of a programme designed to heal the wounding spirit with music. Don't be surprised to find that some of the music played by Maurie and Trevor isn't strictly "gospel", but it is always inspirational. No preaching, no religion, just music that re-connects you with your spirit. After two hours with these guys and their special kind of music, you'll feel more centred, relaxed, and a whole lot better about yourself and the world you live in. If there's a "special" song you'd like to hear, give Maurie a call. They may be able to play it for you that day.
Maurie Huxley & Trevor Dawson

6.00pm Remember Then
"Doo Wop" was a term coined retrospectively in the '70s to describe a genre of jazzy group harmony music that proliferated in the '50s and '60s. Rising out of the disciplined, tight harmonies of '30s and '40s groups like The Andrews Sisters, The Mills Brothers and the Inkspots, came the finger-clicking, hand-clapping, rocking tight-harmony rhythms of the Platters (Only You), the Marcels (Blue Moon), Curtis Lee (Pretty Little Angel Eyes), the Monotones (The Book of Love), Danny and the Juniors (At the Hop), and Australia's Delltones (Hangin' Five). These people were all immaculate showmen and women: they sang, they danced and performed choreographed routines for cabaret and telvision. Thanks to Geoff Groth and Coast's "Remember Then", Doo Wop is no longer the forgotten 1/3rd of R & B, but takes pride of place alongside the Instrumentalists and Soloists.
Geoff Groth

2.00pm Orange Blossom Special
"The Houndog", "Louisianna Hayride", "Orange Blossom Special" ….. the tradition continues on Coast FM every Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock - fittingly the same time that the original Houndog aired. Through her love and support of local bands, Christine discovered The Houndog with Bob Shannon, and was invited one afternoon onto the show as a guest. Her involvement grew out of her love for listening and dancing to local rockabilly bands. She says, "I live in, and support the community that plays, listens to and sometimes dresses up and dances to '40s and '50s rockabilly, Lindy hop, blues and swing..... And I LOVE to play the ladies!", she adds with a hint of passion. Orange Blossom Special celebrates the feel-good era, the clothing, and the sounds. 8:00pm Bible Spotlight
The Bible is more than just a treasure-trove of historic and totemic stories and ponderings by and about a bunch of people who lived a long time ago: the Bible is an inspired revelation, and has immediate relevance and meaning for our everyday life and living, and to the headlines in this morning's news. Tim Colliver and his guests on Bible Spotlight share their personal quests for a better understanding of Bible teaching, and offer hints and ways for us to study the Bible for ourselves. Sponsored by the Christadelphians, Bible Spotlight each week raises a question or a theme and features everyday guests (no professional theologians), who discuss and share what they've learned from the Bible, and their real "got-it" experiences that have flowed from their explorings. There is also discussion on and around the role of women in the Bible and in the Church. This is a programme based on the premise that we learn best from experience and from each other.
Tim Colliver
9.00pm A Touch Of Jazz
A friend said to Coast FM founding member, Eddy Van Reeuwyk, recently - "Eddy, you've almost converted me from trad jazz!". His "Touch of Jazz" programme embraces artists and bands who hail after 1970, a rich mine of splendid music from the likes of Erroll Garner, Don Burrows, Diana Krall, Four-Play, Cleo Laine, James Morrison, Patti Austin, Oscar Peterson...... great performers, great music and no avant-garde. While you're chilling out your Sunday evening, you can also look forward to interviews with jazz musos who are passing through town, and local jazz artists currently working the pubs and clubs. Eddy comes from and maintains a long family tradition of classical and jazz musicians - you can tell. This is Quality.
